HORIZON (2003-2004) 10 min. loop

Two lines - horizontal and vertical - have been drawn on the wall. One of them is an axis indicating the constant position of sound pitch within its' limits. The other line functions as a cursor, tracing the changes of sound pitch. Constantly scrolling horizon - photos of different Lithuanian landscapes, connected into one continuous sequence. The sound pitch changes together with the horizon line, which becomes visualisation of the sound. The image is being projected on the lines drawn on the wall. Two loudspeakers are placed independently in the exhibition space or somewhere near the borders of projection.

Two lines were drawn on a wall (in the Tallinn Graphic Art Triennial they were drawn between the other pieces that had nothing to do with electronic media): the vertical blue, that would act as a cursor, and a horizontal red, along which a landscape (a video loop composed of photographs Lithuanian landscapes of inspiring beauty) would glide. The mound of Kernave would slip under the foot of a dune in Šventoji, and the soundtrack would follow the line of the relief, get lower while rolling down a side of a hill and jump over the barriers of electricity poles. The music that sounds in the installation flirts with absolute dependence on the formal (inner) parameters of the installation and also with a purpose of finding a “Lithuanian” harmony.
